Nuztai’s arrival at the Interpol base was met with signs of confidence from the others. It seemed word had arrived about a final UB on Poni island, and a particularly dangerous one, at that. Rumor was that the beast was viciously trying to devour those who got too close. While Anabel organized the details, Nuztai used the chance to once again trade with Ren and add Buzzwole to his living ‘dex. Nuztai had been doing a lot of dex filling in his spare time, but this was the first he’d realized just how close he was to completing it. One last UB, and one last Tapu. Then he would leave the beautiful tropical region before he could get lynched by the locals.

The idea of leaving Alola didn’t sit well with him. He’d be leaving on bad terms, and he’d quite enjoyed his time here. But his worry for Hau and his mother began to trump his regrets. The time to leave was definitely coming.

“Time to go!” called out Anabel. “We’ve got the location pinned down. Time for you to do what you do so well.”

Nintai made his may through Poni Meadow and into Resolution Cave, where the beast, now code named ‘Glutton’, was said to be hiding. This beast was not hard to find. It swiftly tried to make an attempt to grab Nuztai, presumably to throw him down it’s massive open maw.

Nuztai led with Gadreel and activated a Z-powered Yawn. Gluttany began to Thrash about in anger. Gadreel landed a Shadow Ball, but to little effect, and Gluttony’s continued thrashing put Gadreel within an inch of his life. But Gluttony succumb to sleep, and Nuztai used the Chance for a Max Potion. Nuztai was hoping to take advantage of Gadreel’s increased speed from the Z-Yawn, but it’s other moves were either too strong to use or completely useless, so he swapped out to Mary. The switch awoke Gluttony, who resumed Thrashing and did quite a number on Mary. Mary’s attempt to attack the thrashing beast was dodged, and Mary was pummeled yet again. This battle was not looking good, and now Mary was on the ropes. Nuztai used a Max potion, but to no surprise, the beast continued to Thrash. Mary landed a Hurricane attack, severely weakening Gluttony, but not enough to prevent another Thrash.

Gluttony was weak and confused, a combo Nuztai didn’t like, but Mary was weak once again, and Nuztai had no choice but to risk switching out to Gadreel. Gadreel was hit with Thrashes while yawning at the Beast, and Nuztai used another Max Potion to try and keep Gadreel in the world of the living. Gluttony snapped out of its confusion, Thrashed on Gadreel some more, and promptly fell asleep. Finally, the opportunity Nuztai had been waiting for. He tossed a Beast Ball at Gluttony, who immediately broke out! But it was so weak! And asleep! Nuztai tried again, hearing the ball whistle as it landed on Gluttony’s sweet spot. The ball shook once, and clicked. Nuztai checked his Pokédex, and Guzzlord was registered.

As happy as Nuztai was to have captured this dangerous beast, it was clear that he wasn’t getting out so easily. Waiting for him as he entered Poni Meadow from the cave, was strange purple-finned Pokémon that could be none other than Tapu Fini itself. It assumed a battle stance, and Nuztai sent Gadreel in for the battle.

A strange pink mist takes over the meadow as the battle begins. Gadreel Yawns as it bursts from its Pokéball. Tapu Fini leads with Nature’s Madness, and Gadreel fires back with a Shadow Ball. Fini seemed to be barely scathed from the attack. Gadreel, however, was badly hurt. Fini struck again, seriously wounding Gadreel, but he held on and hit Fini with his Psychic power. Something about this terrain was keeping Fini was succumbing to sleep, so Nuztai didn’t waste more time with Yawns. He knew from his previous battles that the Terrain would wear off eventually, and that would be their chance. Nuztai used a Max Potion. Fini attacked again with Madness, and followed up with Muddy Water. Nuztai didn’t understand the point of using that attack against Gadreel, as it did little damage, but as Gadreel tried to fire a Shadow Ball, it was clear some mud got his eyes, hurting his accuracy.

Nuztai used a Max Potion, Fini another Muddy Water, and the Misty pink Terrain dissipated at last. Nuztai activated Gadreel’s Z-powered Yawn, but not before Fini blasted a Hydro Pump. Fini attempted another, but Gadreel dodged, attempting another Shadow Ball that also missed. But now Fini fell asleep. Gadreel hit with one more Shadow Ball, and Nuztai decided it was time to start tossing Pokéballs. He led with a Timer Ball, but Fini burst free. Next a Net Ball. Gadreel and Nuztai stood in silence as the ball shook… once… twice... thrice… and click! Tapu Fini was caught.

As Nuztai picked up the Pokéball, a voice entered his mind. The booming echo brought him to his knees, but the message was clear. “We have tested your strength and are satisfied. It is now up to you to calm it.”

“Can’t take the guilt of what you’ve done, eh?” Nuztai’s headache vanished as he heard a new voice in front of him. Nanu stood angrily above him. “Now I’ve seen it twice with my own eyes. The guardians captured by an outsider with no respect. You’re coming in.”

“I can’t! I’m needed for something! Something terrible is coming!” Nuztai frantically tried to explain to Nanu.

“ENOUGH!” interrupted Nanu. “I’ll bring you in by force if I must!” Nanu grabbed a Pokéball and prepared for battle.

Nuztai saw no other choice. Everything that the guardians had done was to prepare for something. At first, they saw a chance to bolster their own power, and when that failed, they saw a chance to bolster the power of someone who could win. But it wasn’t the UBs they were preparing for. No, if that were so, Fini wouldn’t have challenged Nuztai. There was something far worse coming, and only Nuztai could defeat it… or capture it. But there was no explaining this to Nanu. He was too busy being offended by this affront to his religion to realize the danger to his homeland that he was failing to help prevent. If only he would just listen.

Nuztai sent Gadreel but was faced with Nanu’s Sableye. Sableye erupted a Dark Pulse that critically wounded Gadreel, who just lay there and Yawned. Nuztai used a Hyper Potion to heal Gadreel, finishing just in time to dodge Sableye’s Toxic, and Sableye went to sleep. Nuztai used the chance to switch to Rufus, who charged in with Play Rough and crushed Sableye. Nanu followed up with Krookodile who slammed the ground with Earthquake. Rufus shrugged it off and Played Rough with Krookodile, knocking it out as well. Nanu swapped to Honchkrow, who led with a quick Sucker Punch. Rufus still managed to land with Play Rough, but this time, it wasn’t enough. Nuztai healed Rufus with a Max Potion, and Honchkrow flew in with a Sucker Punch. Rufus dodged in time, but Honchkrow immediately followed up with another, landing damage, yet Rufus used the close range opportunity to bite into it with Thunder Fang, knocking Honchkrow out.

Persian erupted from its Pokéball, and the angered Nanu activated its Z-move without haste. The powerful Black Hole Eclipse critically wounded Rufus, who was so hurt he couldn’t land his Play Rough. Nuztai healed Rufus, and the two traded Dark Pulses and Play Roughs several times before Persian was finally defeated. Finally, there was Absol. Nuztai healed Rufus, and Absol took full advantage, landing two Night Slash attacks, nearly killing Rufus, who landed a Play Rough and knocked the Absol out. But as Nuztai looked around, Nanu was gone! Nuztai reached for his Ride Pager to call Charizard and escape… but nothing happened.

“I had Charizard temporarily recalled. There’ll be no escaping that way this time.” said Nanu from behind Nuztai as he quickly grabbed and cuffed his hands.

Nuztai lay in his cell, staring at the ceiling as the sound of the door to the police station could be heard opening and closing over and over again. Moments later, he could hear arguing, and he was sure he recognized the voices. He sat up, closed his eyes and tried to listen carefully.

“His Pokédex clearly shows he caught them! All four of them!” Yelled Hala

“But those creatures after them! He must have caught those, too!” cried Nuztai’s mother through tears.

“We have no evidence that those were the creatures linked to the sightings lately.” replied a calmer Nanu.

“What are you talking about?! They fit the descriptions perfectly!” Hollered Hau.

“Even if they are, it doesn’t forgive capturing the deities of the islands!” roared Hala.

“But Nanu’s story doesn’t make sense! The guardians don’t appear before just anybody for a fight!” screamed Kukui.

The room seemed to go silent for a moment on that point. “Could they finally be figuring it out?” thought Nuztai.

“The island guardians only appear before the Kahuna!” Kukui went on.

“That’s not entirely true.” interrupted Nanu.

“He’s right! They’re called guardians for a reason! They also appear before threats!” Yelled Hala.

“They didn’t, like, think he was a threat when they were juicing him and his Pokémon for power.” argued Mina.

“Is it not at least possible that they were testing him for something?” asked Kukui.

Nuztai smiled. “Leave it to Kukui to be the first to figure it out.” he thought. Suddenly, a loud explosion echoed from far away. Mumbled puzzled questions filled the room, and a few moments later, the sound of the door bursting open could be heard and a there was a new voice.

“I am here for Nuztai!” spoke Looker.

“I don’t care what that badge says, we can’t just hand over a criminal!” Hollered Hala.

“You can and you will.” Looker replied. “We have operative in danger and monster on loose. Nuztai is needed to capture it.”

“Will you be putting up his bail? It’s been set at 1 million.” replied Nanu calmly.

“That’s outrageous! 1 Million for catching some Pokémon!” cried Nuztai’s Mother.

“How fitting. That is exactly the amount that HQ sent for his payment for his recent mission.” answered Looker. Moments later, Nuztai was shocked to see Looker and his friends coming down to set him free. “Just be aware, Nuztai. Once this creature is caught, it will be time for you to leave these islands.”

“If only I could leave on better terms.” replied Nuztai as he stepped out of the cell and was handed his belt of Pokéballs.

Nuztai arrived at the deepest part of Ten-Carat Hill, the site where the mysterious black Pokémon had been seen heading with Anabel after a vicious battle. They had mistaken the Pokémon for a UB and attempted to capture it, but apparently only riled it. Nuztai had no doubt that this was the creature the guardians were preparing him for. And it wasn’t hard to find.

It blasted Gadreel with a multi-colored Prismatic Laser as soon as it came out of the Pokéball, and Nuztai activated a Z-Yawn. But the single hit had Gadreel at less than half health, and Nuztai was severely concerned about the safety of his Pokémon. Nuztai used a Max Potion, Gadreel dodged another Laser blast, and the Pokémon fell asleep. Gadreel began firing Shadow Balls at the sleeping creature. It awoke, firing another Prismatic Laser, and Gadreel hit with a Psychic blast. It seemed Gadreel had successfully weakened it, so Nuztai just needed to get it to sleep again. Gadreel Yawned, and Nuztai used a Max Potion. The Pokémon used Wring Out, hurting Gadreel before falling asleep. Nuztai tossed a Dusk Ball and watched intently as it shook… once… twice… thrice… and the ball exploded as it broke free! Nuztai tried again to even less success, and the Pokémon awoke, scattering stealth rocks. It then bolstered its Iron Defense and Gadreel Yawned, trying to lull it back to sleep. Nuztai stalled by healing Gadreel, and the Pokémon raised its Iron Defense again before falling asleep.

Nuztai tried several more Dusk Balls, but no luck, and the Pokémon awoke and began attacking again. While Gadreel Yawned, the Pokémon used its laser, nearly killing Gadreel. Nuztai used a Max Potion and Pokémon fell asleep again. Nuztai tried Timer Balls this time, twice failing before it awoke again. Gadreel dodged its attack, and Nuztai tossed another Timer Ball at the angry Pokémon… once… twice… thrice… and click! Necrozma registered to the Pokédex!

As Nuztai boarded the ship with his mother, an angry crowd had to be kept separate from the small group of friends that was sad to see them go. Nanu worked the line to keep trouble-makers out, and Hau couldn’t look more disappointed. But after good-byes were said, and the ship untied its ropes, Nuztai’s mother looked up and pointed in shock! Nuztai, Hau, and slowly everyone in the crowds turned to look towards the top of Ten-Carat Hill, where the four guardians floated, waving at Nuztai, as if saying ‘Good-bye’. Nuztai was shocked, but waved as well. After-all, he was sure they were in their Pokéballs in Oak’s Lab, safe and sound, and there was nothing he could do to investigate now that his ship was leaving. Johto was calling his name, and there was no going back now!

Behind a boulder on Ten-Carat Hill, the rescued Anabel and Looker thanked Professor Samson Oak for the use his Ditto and Ms. Wicke’s collected data on the Tapu.

Final Tally!
