Finding himself presented with the option, Nuztai decided to skip the next door in line and go to the last. After all, what fun is it to go in order in the League’s first challenge. He entered, and was faced with a woman about his age. She had long grayish blue hair and was holding a golf club.
“So, here you are…” She said as he approached. “Why don’t we see who the winds favor today? My name is Kahili. A few years ago, I was a champion of the island challenge, too. Just like you.”
“Ah, I see.” responded Nuztai. “So Kukui invited you back to join the Elite Four?”
“I’ve been traveling the world to improve my skill as both a Trainer and as a golfer. When I heard that they’d made a Pokémon League in my home region, I came flying back to challenge it.”
“Challenge it? Not join it?” asked a puzzled Nuztai.
“No, my original goal was to challenge it.” replied Kahili. “But Kukui convinced me that I was needed here. But I’ll be gunning for that seat when you lose!”
Kahili immediately tossed out her Skarmory, and was met by Nuztai’s Rufus. Skarmory released spikes all over the battlefield, but was immediately struck hard by Rufus’ Thunder Fang attack, knocking it out. Kahili’s Mandibuzz put up more of a fight, getting in a Flatter attack to confuse Rufus, but Rufus’ Play Rough was too much for it to handle as well. Toucannon and Oricorio were swept under the rug in a snap by Rufus’ powerful Thunder Fang attack. Kahili felt shocked by how horribly outmatched she was. She sent in her last Pokémon, Crobat, hoping to keep Rufus confused with it’s Supersonic, but Rufus stayed on point, and used it’s Z-move, Breakneck Blitz as a powered version of it’s Giga Impact. Crobat went down in one swift strike.
“You are the real deal.” said Kahili in the shock of her huge defeat. “I was honestly annoyed when Kukui kept pestering me to come here, but I’m glad I did.”
After healing Rufus, Nuztai entered the door he skipped before. Would this be the trainer to truly challenge him? A young girl in tattered clothing stood at the opposite end of the room. It was Acerola.
“Hiya!” She yelled, “Nanu said maybe he can’t refuse a tapu choosing him to serve as kahuna, but he’d be damned if he had to serve as one of the Elite Four just because some guy asked him!”
“I just gained so much respect for Nanu, I want to leave just to find him and hug him.” cracked Nuztai.
“Bahaha!” Laughed Acerola. “Well, I guess I’ll just have to battle hard enough to make up for his not being here!”
“Are you sure about this?” asked Nuztai. “My team is unbalanced and has definite weak spots, as happens to most Nuzlockers, or so I hear. But we have a few overwhelming advantages…”
“GOOD!” exclaimed Acerola, jumping excitedly. “Let’s make this a challenge!” Acerola threw her Pokéball, freeing Sableye onto the battlefield.
“Ah, a personal favorite Pokémon.” said Nuztai. “You know, I used to think it’s Dark and Ghost typing had no weaknesses. Until that is…” Nuztai tossed a Pokéball, sending Rufus onto the battlefield. “I discovered the Fairy type! Rufus, attack with Play Rough!” Rufus charged the small darkness Pokémon and began playfully pummeling it. When the dust settled, Sableye was unconscious.
“Oh,” began Acerola with a smirk, “this is going to be more fun that I thought! Time to step it up!” She sent in Froslass, who launched a confuse ray at Rufus. Rufus stumbled around, but as Froslass approached to finish the job, Rufus bit into it with a Crunch attack, knocking Froslass out.
Acerola sent out Dhelmise, who began firing Energy Balls at Rufus. At first, Rufus stumbled and hurt itself, taking further damage from the Energy Ball barrage, but Rufus snapped out of it, charged in, zigzagging through Energy Ball blasts, and Crunched Dhelmise. Not so easily defeated, it blasted Rufus off, but Rufus hounded it, and finished Dhelmise with another Crunch.
Seeing Rufus was getting weak, Nuztai swapped to Mary to meet Acerola’s Palossand. Mary’s Intimidation ability made Palossand nervous, and as Mary blasted a Hydro Pump, it collapsed into sand and dodged the blast. It then created an Iron Defence barrier that helped shield another powerful Hyrdro Pump. Acerola took advantage of the confusion and activated Palossand’s Z-move, Never-Ending Nightmare, that tore into Mary’s mind. But Mary is as stubborn as Gyrados come, shrugging off the attack, and continued trying to blast Palossand. Palossand kept it’s distance firing off Shadow Balls, and continued dodging attacks.
Nuztai could see this was going nowhere and Mary was growing weak. He swapped out for Bouncee, who kicked away a Shadow Ball, and slammed into Palossand with a Trop Kick. Palossand reconstituted behind Bouncee and shot her in the back with another Shadow Ball. Angered, Bouncee spun around and crit-ed a Trop Kick into Palossand. Palossand was finally defeated.
Bouncee was hurt from the behind the back blow, and Nuztai decided to recall her. Acerola sent Drifblim, and was challenged by Nuztai’s Metatron. Nuztai activated Metatron’s Z-move, Devastating Drake, and Metatron generated a giant, swift, purple energy drake that chased the slow-moving Drifblim in the air and crashed into it, severely injuring it. Drifblim began Focusing Energy in hopes of finishing Metatron with it’s next move, but it was already too late, as Metatron flew up and Crunched into Drifblim and dragged it to the ground. The battle was over, and Nuztai had won.
“Aww…” moaned Acerola as she recalled the unconcious Drifblim. “There goes my hope of beating you to smithereens and becoming Champion myself!”
“There’s plenty of time for you to get your chance!” laughed Nuztai.
Nuztai returned to the main hall of the Pokémon League, and the energy running from each door now fed into a portal in the middle of the room. This was it. It was time to his seat on the throne…
Or was it?
