Moon Version, Part 22: Ultra Space and Lusamilego

As Gladion raised the flute to his lips, he realized he’d never played the flute in his life. But the melody flowed out as if he’d been playing forever. Nuztai only knew the melody taught to him by Professor Fuji of Lavender Town, but the tune he played with Gladion was new. As the song finished, the towering monument behind them erupted with a brilliant light that shot down onto the center of the altar. The backpack that Hapu held rustled, then flew from her hands towards the light. Nebby shook free of the bag and basked in the light for a moment before glowing and transforming. Nebby shaped huge, crescent wings and dark body almost like that of a giant bat. Gladion, Nuztai, and Hapu stared in awe. Nebby was, in fact, the Legendary Pokémon.
“Lunala, please!” Cried out Gladion. “Help us save Lillie!” Lunala nodded and burst into the air. With a gaze upon the monument, it tore open a wormhole. Lunala then flew down with blinding speed, scooped up Gladion and Nuztai, and entered the wormhole.
“So this is Ultra Space!” exclaimed Nuztai. “It’s beautiful!”
“You call these dark, creepy rocks beautiful? Wait, are these rocks? Or are they plants?” Gladion looked around confused.
“We’re in a different dimension, man. Try to at least enjoy it a little.”
Lunala cried out with a loud screech, easily drawing Nuztai and Gladion’s attention back to it. “What is it Nebby?” Asked Nuztai. Lunala let out another cry and looked to the ground. “Are you saying to have to stay here? You can’t go search with us?”
“What?!” Yelled Gladion. “But we need your power! Don’t give us the ‘grow stronger without me’ spiel! You’re supposed to help us save Lillie!”
“Dude, chill!” called Nuztai. “If Nebby needs to stay, it may be so it can bring us back! That’s kind of an important part of this mission, isn’t it?”
“Oh, man, is it ever!” yelled a familiar voice. Guzma dropped down from a rock formation in front of the pair. “I’m the Team Skull boss, and I’ve never been scared of nothing or nobody. Heck, I live my life making people scared of ME! So listen to what big bad Guzma has to say…”
Gladion resisted the urge to start demanding answers as he registered the odd look on Guzma’s face. It… Could it be fear? The look was so foreign coming from Guzma, Gladion just couldn’t be sure.
“Ya’ll are stupid!” yelled Guzma to their faces. “How in the world did you get the Legendary Pokémon to bring you to this place? I’ve got no idea how you did it, but here you are. It’s all dark here… I’ve got no clue what’s going on, but there’s beasts everywhere… I tried to catch one of those things… but it possessed me!”
“It possessed you!” exclaimed Nuztai. “That’s a power we didn’t know it had!”
“It gets worse!” explained Guzma. “That’s when my body, my mind… They started running wild, and I couldn’t do anything about it! It was like I became somebody else, and I finally felt what fear feels like! It was terrifying!”
“Yes, I do believe that’s what fear is.” spat Gladion. “Get on with it. Where’s my mother?”
“That lady…” Guzma said solemnly. “She’s on another level! She’s way far gone!”
“What does that mean?” Nuztai and Gladion asked in unison.
“She lost her mind over these Ultra Beasts. There’s no talking to her, no reasoning with her… She’s just gone…”
Nuztai and Gladion looked at each other, then turned back to Guzma and began walking. Guzma watched as they went by, utterly confused by their determination.
They searched for what felt like hours before coming to an odd clearing. There, out of thin air, several of the beasts they’d seen before appeared, then scattered in all directions. Then one reappeared in the center, along with Lusamine.
“Welcome to my new world! A world where the only thing that exists is the love between Nihilego and myself.” announced Lusamine. “So beautiful… So delicious… This is the real paradise!”
“How could you be living here?” asked Nuztai calmly. “Seriously, the only living thing around is the Nihilego. There’s nothing else to eat! Like, what even are THEY eating?”
“YOU!” Shrieked Lusamine, “Why must you continue to pester me?! I am sick of you. Sick through and through! Who told you that you could come here, to the perfect beautiful world of my beasts and me?”
“I’d say YOU invited us, when you left without freeing Lillie!” Yelled Gladion.
“And let’s be serious here,” added Nuztai. “even if you had freed her first, Lillie would have then just insisted on saving YOU! I don’t know HOW you had two respectably noble kids without passing on your obvious sociopathy.”
“Just leave.” Said Lusamine sternly. “I don’t need you here…I don’t need you any longer! Look at this beautiful world! You want me to go back to that world? That’s what you’ve come to bother me for? Even you can’t possibly be that stupid!”
“You narcissistic, megalomaniacal, xenophobic, self-absorbed ass!” exploded Gladion. “No one cares what you want! We’ve put up with it for far too long! This has been a long time coming! We’re not here to ASK you to come back! I am going to DRAG you back, if I have to do it by your long, heavily conditioned HAIR!”
“Is that so! Then with Nihilego’s power, I will show you how wrong you were to come here!” Lusamine tossed her blue Beast Ball into the air above her. “Attack, my Nihilego!” The sworm of Nihilego reappeared and moved to engage Nuztai and Gladion. The Beast Ball burst open and released yet another Nihilego that lowerd itself unto Lusamine, causing a startling transformation.
“I’ll take care of the Nihilego!” Called Gladion as he sent out Type: Null. “You take out… that… Lusa..mi..lego!”
Lusamilego sent out a Clefable, charged with a glowing aura. Nuztai chose Metatron who led with a powerful Rock Slide, which seemed boosted by the odd rock formations of their battlegrounds. Clefable was quickly buried by the attack. Lusamilego then sent out Milotic, and Nuztai switched to Bouncee. Milotic let loose a powerful Hydro Pump, but Bounce powered through it and blasted Miliotic with a Leaf Storm. Milotic attempted to use Recover to heal itself, but Bouncee charged at it and landed a perfect Trop Kick, knocking Milotic out. Lusamilego sent out Mismagius, and Nuztai began to wonder how she was reaching her Pokéballs in that strange form. He swapped in Mary, who dispatched Mismagius quickly with a Crunch attack.
“This won’t go as easily as before!” Yelled Nuztai. “My new team has trained hard! Feel the wrath of a Nuzlocker!”
Lusamilego shook wildly with anger as she send out Lilligant. As Mary began to use Hurricane, Lilligant hit her with a Petal Dance, critically injuring her. Mary still got out the Hurricane attack, however, and bought Nuztai a chance to swap her for Rufus. But Lilligant was still in it, and used another Petal Dance, wounding Rufus just as bad. Nuztai swapped again, this time for Bouncee. Lilligant let out another Petal Dance, and while not very effective, Bouncee needed to heal. Nuztai sprayed a Hyper Potion, and Lilligant hit with a Teeter Dance, confusing Bouncee. As Bouncee stumbled and fell, she was hit by another Petal Dance. Nuztai took no chances and used another Hyper Potion. Bouncee snapped out of her confusion, dodged the incoming Petal Dance and began flipping and spinning, smashing Lilligant with Acrobatics! Lilligant fainted!
That’s when Nuztai’s jaw dropped. Lusamilego sent in Bewear. How could it still be alive! He saw Bewear fall into the freezing liquid just as Bobby did! Now wasn’t the time for puzzling mysteries, though, and Nuztai activated Bouncee’s Z-move, Bloom Doom! It seemed to hurt Bewear, but it shrugged it off and used Pain Split.
“I WILL take another of your precious Pokémon, Nuzlocker!” Shouted Lusamilego, “If only to teach you a lesson for coming to my beautiful world!”
Bouncee hit Bewear with her Acrobatics, a super-effective hit, but Bewear followed with another Pain Split. This repeated again, then again, before Nuztai changed tactics and had Bouncee use Trop Kick. Bewear continued to respond with Pain Split until they were both extremely weak. Bouncee landed a Trop Kick, leaving Bewear on the brink of consciousness, when it charged Bouncee with a Take Down attack. By strength or miracle, Bouncee held on with a meger hit point, and Bewear collapsed from the recoil of its own attack. Lusamilego was defeated.
Nuztai looked to Gladion, who had just finished his battle with the Nihilego. Lusamilego was poised to attack herself when Gladion charged her. He lept into the air and one of her monsterous tentacle arms smacked him away.
“Lunala! HELP!” Cried Gladion as he tumbled through the air. In an instant, Lunala was there, caught Gladion and attacked Lusamilego with a powerful blast of energy, knocking her to the ground. As she began to get up, her new form began bursting with light, and in a flash, Lusamine was separated from Nihilego, who returned to its ball. Lusamine tumbled to the ground. Gladion walked up to her and checked her pulse. Her eyes opened and she reached up and touched Gladion’s face.
“When did… you get so beautiful…” She spoke softly before losing consciousness.
Gladion scoffed. “I don’t need the approval of a sociopathic abuser like you. Not anymore.”
