“You know” said Gladion as the elevator hummed its way up, “I know we aren’t friends. But I’m glad you two are here.”
“Maybe it’s the beginning of a friendship.” laughed Nuztai.
“Young Master!” called out a voice as the elevator made it to their floor. It was Ms Wicke.
“Where’s Lillie? Have you seen her?” Asked Gladion
“I… assume she’s with the president…” Wicke answered quietly.
“Then that’s where we’re going. That’s all I need to know.”
“But the doors have been locked!”
“That’s not stopping me!” Gladion rushed off, Hau close behind. Nuztai gave a curious glance to Wicke, then followed suit. At the doors stood four trainers, including Faba.
“Ha! It seems my plan has worked!” announced Faba. “I knew you’d come here eventually, so I knew I’d be able to get my revenge if I ambushed you here. I sent you all downstairs to buy time to gather reinforcements. I’m a genius!”
“So, uh, Mr. Faba, do you have the keys to the president’s rooms?” asked Hau
“Indeed! I have it right here.” answered a blissful Faba.
Hau broke out in a bellowing laugh! “So… If you’d just stayed hidden, we would’ve been stuck here anyway, right?”
“Now we can kick your ass and take the keys.” Scoffed Nuztai. “A plan indeed.”
The look of shock and horror from his miscalculation was a look that delighted Nuztai and his team. The look soon turned to rage, however, and everyone sent out Pokémon, beginning a grand battle. Dean’s Sparkling Aria immediately defeated an enemy Magmar, while damaging several other Pokémon. Hau’s Raichu’s Electro Ball wiped out an enemy Ledian. Faba’s Slowbro used Yawn on Dean, who struck it with a Moonblast before falling asleep. Gladion’s Golbat used it’s Acrobatics to finish off an enemy Electabuzz. Raichu hit Slowbro with a powerful Psychic attack that finished it off. Nuztai recalled Dean while Raichu and Golbat battled Faba’s Hypno. As they held it off, Nuztai sent in Rufus, who took Hypno out with a Crunch attack. Faba’s Bruxish was blasted as soon as it was sent in with a Crunch and Electro Ball.
Hau walked directly up to Faba and raised his empty palm with a smile. “I’m going to go save Lillie now. The keys, please?” Faba snarled down at Hau’s smiling face. Every muscle in his body wanted to slap his shit. But then he’d look past Hau and see Gladion and Nuztai, who glared at him with an anger and hatred he’d never felt before. Faba reluctantly handed Hau the keys, and they moved on, leaving Faba to reach for his blood pressure medication.
Inside, the place was covered in Team Skull thugs. Gladion ran straight through them while they were still confused and ran up to Guzma, who stood laughing in the back. The rest of the thugs turned to Hau and Nuztai. They battled their way through thug after thug until they made it to Gladion, who stood stooped in defeat from his battle with Guzma.
Nuztai sent in Raphael the Sandslash to battle Guzma’s Golisopod. Golisopod began using its Swords Dance, and Raphael toughened up with it’s Iron Defence. While Golisopod kept dancing, Raphael made several attempts to Slash it, but did little to it. Fearing Golisopod’s increasing power, Nuztai activated Raphael’s Z-power, and launched a Corkscrew Crash. Golisopod wasn’t defeated, but weakened enough to use its Emergency Exit ability to go back to it’s Pokéball. Pincer was sent in his place, who led with a powerful Brick Break that critically weakened Raphael.
Nuztai swapped him with Zeus, who immediately fell prey to the same attack. Knowing Zeus couldn’t take another blow like that, Nuztai swapped again, this time for Dean. Dean blasted forth with its Aqua Jet attack, trading blows with Pinsir, who couldn’t keep up and fainted. Guzma chose Masquerain to take its place, and it led with an Air Slash that wounded Dean who followed with a powerful Moonblast. Nuztai swapped Dean for the weakened Zeus, but Zeus’ Discharge was more than enough to take Masquerain down. Golisopod took its place, but it too crumbled from Zeus’ Discharge.
Guzma’s final Pokémon was Ariados, who Nuztai decided would be too much for Zeus and swapped to Bouncee. Ariados tried it’s Shadow Sneak, but to little effect, and Bouncee leapt high into the air and Stomped that spider flat.
Guzma was enraged, but all he could do was let them pass. Nuztai ran for the door and Gladion followed close behind.
Nuztai stood in momentary shock. There was no one there. It was a beautifully luxurious bedroom… but it was completely empty. That didn’t add up. There were far too many attempts to protect this room for it to be empty. Nuztai and Gladion began searching frantically for some clue, ripping books off the shelves, loose tiles in the walls, buttons behind paintings; there HAD to be something! Then it clicked! Nuztai pulled a sconce next to the fireplace, and a glowing green warp point appeared in the fireplace. There was no turning back.
Nuztai stepped on the tile and found himself in a horror show. The room he found himself in was stark white all around, with a large dome shaped ceiling. The space where he stood was at the end of a narrow path from rest of the room, almost like a dock, and around it wasn’t water, but looked a lot like it. It was at least 10 feet between the place where he stood and the surface of the liquid that gave off a frosty white mist that bit into his skin. But one look around made it clear what that cold liquid was for. Several cylindrical cases stood like trophies all around, each with a different Pokémon inside. Toward the back of the room was a huge computer, with Lusamine plugging away at the keyboard. A black box with a green glow sat at the ground by her feet… and in a case frozen beside her…
“LILLIE!” Screamed a horrified Nuztai. Something inside snapped at the sight, and he charged Lusamine ready to slug her with all his fury and rage.
“Touch me and she dies.” stated Lusamine simply, without so much as turning around. “Defrosting any of my precious lovelies requires a special code that only I know.” Nuztai stopped and froze in place. His blood boiled and his breathing became erratic. His mind raced for something, ANYTHING, that he could do. His eyes turned to Lillie, who looked so peaceful frozen there. He barely knew her. He hardly even liked her. But she was just a kid. One who cared deeply for all Pokémon. She didn’t deserve this. He couldn’t think of many who did.
“What a waste that a trainer of your caliber would have any interest in someone as pathetic as her.” Lusamine continued to type as she spoke eloquently and matter-of-factly. “She hardly warrants it. I honestly expected you to continue to charge me and try to hit me.”
The mere sound of her voice scratched Nuztai’s anger like nails on a chalkboard. Then he heard a noise. It was the warp tile. And again. He turned his head enough to see who came in.
“Mother!” Yelled Gladion as Hau’s eyes widened and he dropped to his knees from horror. “What have you done! She was family!”
Lusamine slammed the counter with rage and spun around shouting, “I HAVE NO FAMILY! I HAVE NO CHILDREN! ESPECIALLY NOT ONES THAT WOULD REJECT MY LOVE!” She reached down and lifted up the black box. A familiar noise came from inside. It was Nebby, the Cosmog. She reached behind her and pressed a button on the machine. A low rumble began and the entire room started to shake. Gladion and Hau struggled for balance and took off down the dock into the main part of the room so they wouldn’t fall into the cold liquid below.
The box Lusamine held began to glow violently and Nebby could be heard crying inside. With a sound like thunder, a crack formed in the ceiling… except it wasn’t in the ceiling. It was somewhere in front of the ceiling. A split in the fabric of space. But the expression on Lusamine’s face wasn’t a pleasant one. Something was wrong. The sound of the warp tile echoed into the shaking room. Guzma entered and ran between Gladion and Hau, cutting them off from Nuztai and Lusamine.
“About time, Guzma!” Hollered Lusamine. “Distract them. The ritual isn’t working! It’s as I feared.” Lusamine turned and looked Nuztai in the eyes while enlarging a Pokéball. “The Nuzlocker hasn’t shed enough blood, yet.”
