“So you think you can take on three Pokémon at once and still win? I can’t tell if you’re cocky or just plain stupid.”

“Neither. I’m an expert on Pokémon moves, and you three are barely experts of tying your shoelaces.”

Kukui stood with maybe an inch from the punk’s face, standing firm as they tried to stare each other down. The stranger seemed taller than Kukui, but it may just have been his spiky white hair. He wore a black jacket and black baggy pants with lots of gold jewelry and oddly shaped gold sunglasses were kept on his forehead my his over-sized hair. Behind him were two generic looking punks that bore a striking resemblance to those two grunts Nuztai had encountered earlier.

“B-boss! Guzma sir!” said one of the grunts. “That guy we were talking about earlier! He just walked in!” Guzma’s stance didn’t change, but his eyes left Kukui to look at the entrance and see who they meant. As Nuztai walked closer, he enlarged a Pokéball in his hand.

“Oh ho! New guy thinks he’s tough!” declared Guzma, finally shifting his full attention away from Kukui. “Fine, let’s dance!”

Nuztai sent out Lucifer and was met with Guzma’s Golisopod. Unsure of the creature’s typing, Nuztai had Lucifer unleash a Dragon Rage, but was met with Golisopod’s Razor Shell attack. Two thuds hit the ground, one for each remaining piece of Lucifer. Once again, Nuztai was filled with rage, as stood reminded of the stakes. He sent Zeus the Magneton to continue the battle, who illuminated the air with a Thundershock attack, defeating Golisopod. Ariados was sent out in it’s place, quickly landing a Sucker Punch on Zeus, who followed it with Tri-Attack, then a Thundershock, finishing Ariados.

“GUZMA!! What is wrong with you?!” Guzma shouted at himself. “YOU! I’ll remember you… as someone I’ll be happy to beat down anytime!”

“You murdered a Pokémon today and that’s all you have to say!” Yelled Nuztai

“Humph. If you’d just surrender you’re Pokémon to Team Skull, they won’t have to die.” Guzma scoffed as he walked off. Nuztai desperately wanted to chase him and … well, he didn’t know what he’d do, but it wouldn’t be friendly. But.. He had a Pokémon to lay to rest. Kukui aided in the task, and as he left, gave Nuztai a special z crystal just for Primarina, saying he needed to go check on the construction of the new Pokémon League.

Not sure who to add to his team to fill the gap, Nuztai decided the simplest thing to do would be to carry the Mystery Egg for a little while. He began to travel route 11, and encountered a Komala. He’d already entered and captured a Pokémon from this route, but didn’t have Komala for the living dex yet. Bobby the Snorlax weakened the Komala pretty easily, but it stubbornly refused to stay in a Pokémon, causing Nuztai to run through all his remaining Great Balls, Ultra Balls, and almost all his Nest Balls. Komala finally caught, Nuztai walked back to the Pokémon Center to buy more Pokéballs. It was on the way back to route 11 that the egg began to quake. Out popped an adorable baby Eevee, and Nuztai named it Uriel.

Seeing his chance at a new fire type on his team to make up for the loss of Lucifer, he began training Uriel carefully, just high enough level to learn Swift, and then evolving Uriel to the mighty Flareon, where it learned Ember. Nuztai bestowed it with the Firium Z and decided to continue it’s training while he traveled.

Route 12 is where Nuztai encountered his first Alolan Geodude. Bobby went in strong, weakening it with a couple Lick attacks, but just as Nuztai was going to throw the Pokéball to add it to his team, the wild Geodude used Self Destruct, scattering iron and rock everywhere.

“While traumatizing to trainers who first witness it,” read the Pokédex, “when done voluntarily, Geodude can eventually reconstitute themselves after using Self Destruct.” Nuztai pulled a Magnesium bar that was stuck to his necklace and tossed into the rubble, silently wishing the wild Geodude luck pulling itself back together.

Nuztai made a visit to the Geothermal Power Plant, catching a few new Pokémon for the living dex, but otherwise a boring visit. Route 13 was full of people hanging around, but no Pokémon shy of a fishing spot. There, Balthazar the Bruxish was added to the team.

Upon entering Tapu village, Nuztai bumps into Hau, and the two enjoy a friendly greeting. They discuss a few pleasantries of their journey so far, and tell a little about their success in the last trial. But the conversation turns dark as Nuztai talks about Lucifer’s success in the last trial. When Hau asks why Nuztai seems to be upset, he tells Hau the horrible story of the fight with Guzma in Malie Gardens.

“Just when I was thinking you were a capable trainer…” Said a voice from the shadows. Out stepped Gideon, his usual scowl across his face. “Regardless, Guzma and Team Skull are looking for a particular Pokémon. It’s called Cosmog. Seen it?”

“W-what!” exclaimed a surprised and terrified Hau. “N-not that we’d tell you!”

“So you have seen it.” Gideon says without a budge in his scowl. “Look, it isn’t a powerful Pokémon, but it has the ability to summon something dangerous. If that happened, it would surely be a disaster for Alola.”

“You don’t sound very interested in that.” Pressed Nuztai. “I thought you were with Team Skull.”

“I do work for them. But, I mean…” Gideon stumbled for the right words to say before continuing “Just protect it. If you know anything, or learn anything about it, keep that Pokémon safe. You don’t have to trust me or my motives. But surely keeping a weak Pokémon safe is in your goody-goody wheelhouse. Just do it. I’m outta here.” Gideon marched off before more could be asked of the matter.

Nuztai and Hau watched him as he walked away for a moment, before looking back to each other, exchanging silent expressions of worry for Lillie and her Cosmog that they hadn’t seen in quite some time...
