Nuztai rested at the Pokémon Center. He was eager to press on as soon as his Pokémon were healed, knowing the fire trial was next and his starter, Dean the Brionne, would be more than a match for any fire types. And now that he had the waterium Z, Dean could use his z move to dominate.

On his way to the next trial site, Nuztai came across the battle dome, where Gideon was walking inside. Suspicious, Nuztai followed, only to be approached by a masked man calling himself ‘The Masked Royal’.

“Come join me, you two, in an ancient Alolan tradition passed down for generations! It’s said to mimic the battle style of the four island guardians as they battle to see who is the strongest!” He announced proudly.

“Hold that thought… When do the four island guardians battle to see who is strongest? Why do they do that?” Nuztai asked

“Hmm, we’ll need a fourth contender… YOU THERE! ON THE BALCONY!” Shouted The Masked Royal to a young man looking over the rails on the second floor. It was Hau, who stood shell shocked to know he was being dragged into this, too.

The battle was quick as Dean’s water type moves dominated the field. As soon as the battle was over, Gideon left, wanting no more to do with anyone. The Masked Royal wished Hau and Nuztai luck on their trial and left, as Nuztai pressed his questions hoping for a response.

“There’s something seriously fishy with this island challenge thing, Hau.” Nintai wispered to Hau. “Especially the Nuzlocke island challenge. I think I’m involved in something bigger than both of us.”

Hau laughed and patted Nuztai on the back. “You’re just letting it get to you. Look, if something does happen, I’ll be here to back you up. But for now, let’s enjoy the ride and head to the next trial site.”

And so they went on their way to the Wela Volcano Park. “We can’t very well take the trial at the same time, Hau. Go on ahead. I’ll catch a Pokémon here on Route 7 and train up a bit. I’m sure by the time I’m done, you’ll be finished.” encouraged Nuztai.

“Sounds like a plan! Wish me luck!” exclaimed an eager Hau, who turned and dashed toward the volcano park.

Nuztai did just as he said he would, catching a finneon for the team and adding a Pyukumuku to the living dex. He challenged the local trainers and leveled up his team, even evolving Bouncee again into a Tsareena. When he felt done, he healed his Pokémon and entered Wela Volcano Park for himself. Adding a Salandit to his team brought him a certain delight, and he quickly reached the top of the Volcano. The games were over.

“I am Kiawe, master of dance!” spoke the dark skinned man surrounded by Marowak with flaming bones. It was hard to tell if he was just covered in ash from the volcano or if he normally looked that way. “Your trial will be one of perception! Witness the dances and…”

“No. Oh HELL naw!” interupted Nuztai. “We’re fighting. No dancing. Not happening.” Nuztai send out Dean the Brionne. “Dean, Hydro Vortex!”

...

As Nuztai walked back down from the volcano, he held the firium z crystal up to the sunlight and examined the way the light shone through the various minute imperfections of the stone that made it so beautiful.
